Energy Directorate

The Energy Directorate is responsible for implementing regional energy policies, strategies, and standards in alignment with national frameworks and regional development priorities. It prepares and updates energy development plans, identifies energy demand and supply gaps, and integrates energy planning with key sectors such as agriculture, water, urban development, and climate programs.

The directorate works to expand electricity access in both urban and rural communities, with particular attention to remote and pastoral areas through off-grid and mini-grid solutions. It promotes the development and use of renewable energy sources including solar, wind, biogas, small hydropower, and biomass, while also supporting clean cooking technologies and energy efficiency practices.

In addition, the Energy Directorate ensures proper regulation, supervision, and quality control of energy systems by enforcing technical standards and safety requirements. It strengthens capacity through technical support and training, promotes climate-resilient energy solutions, and monitors and reports on energy programs to support informed decision-making.
