100 Displaced Families in Dhurwaale Receive Solar Energy Equipment

The Somali Regional State Mines, Energy and Petroleum Bureau has provided solar energy equipment to 100 displaced families resettled in Dhurwaale village, Qabribayax district. The beneficiary families, who were previously living in Qoloji IDP camp, will use the solar systems for lighting and mobile phone charging, helping improve access to essential social services, education, healthcare, safety, and environmental protection. The Director of the Energy and Electricity Department, Mohamud Mohamed Abdulahi, stated that the solar equipment distributed to these families is part of the Bureau’s broader plan to promote the utilization of diverse energy resources, particularly clean and sustainable solar energy suitable for remote communities. The families who received the equipment expressed their appreciation, noting that the solar systems will significantly improve their daily lives and access to basic services.

24-Hour Solar Power Project Officially Inaugurated in Gaashaamo

A 24-hour solar-powered electricity project established in Gaashaamo town, Jarar Zone, was officially inaugurated today in a ceremony attended by Federal and Regional Government officials. The inauguration was jointly led by the State Minister of Water and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Sultan Wali, the Minister of Urban Development and Construction of the Somali Regional State, Ahmed Shugri, and the Deputy Minister of Mines, Energy and Petroleum of the Somali Regional State, Idman Ugas. Officials from the Ethiopian Electric Utility and the Jarar Zone Administration also attended the event. The solar power project has the capacity to generate 1,000 Kilowatts of electricity and is expected to benefit more than 6,000 households in Gaashaamo town and surrounding areas. Implemented with a total budget of 400 million Birr, the project is expected to significantly address the long-standing electricity shortage faced by the community and improve access to reliable power for households, businesses, and public services. The project forms part of the Somali Regional State Government’s ongoing efforts to expand sustainable energy infrastructure and improve access to 24-hour electricity services across the region.

168 Million Birr Solar Power Project Officially Inaugurated in Marqaan

The Solar Power Project in Marqaan Town, Doolo Zone, was officially inaugurated today following the successful completion of the project, which addresses a long-standing electricity shortage faced by the local community. The project, which will provide 24-hour electricity service to residents of Marqaan, was jointly inaugurated by a delegation of Regional and Federal Government officials led by the State Minister of Water and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr./Eng. Sultan Wali, and the Minister of Urban Development and Construction of the Somali Regional State, Ahmed Shukri Abdi. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by senior officials including the Deputy Head of the Somali Regional State Roads Bureau, Eng. Ahmednasir Sofe, the Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy of the Somali Regional State, Idman Mahamud Ali, representatives from the Ethiopian Electric Utility, and officials from the Doolo Zone Administration. The solar project, which was highly demanded by the community, generates electricity with a total capacity of 250KW and provides reliable and continuous power supply to the residents of Marqaanweyne. The project was implemented with a total budget of 168 million Birr and has been warmly welcomed by the community, who expect it to significantly improve the long-standing electricity challenges in the town. The Somali Regional State Government, recognizing the increasing demand for reliable 24-hour electricity services across the region, continues to invest in expanding electricity access. This week alone, four solar energy projects were officially inaugurated as part of the regional government’s broader efforts to improve energy coverage and sustainable development.

The 24-hour solar-powered electricity project in Dig district, Jarar Zone, was officially inaugurated today in the presence of Federal and Regional Government officials. The project, implemented with a total budget of 200 million Birr, has the capacity to generate 350 Kilowatts of electricity. It was developed through the collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Water and Energy, the Somali Regional State Urban Development and Construction Bureau, the Ethiopian Electric Utility, and their development partners. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the State Minister of Water and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Eng. Sultan Wali, stated that the project forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to expand access to reliable electricity services and strengthen economic integration between rural and urban communities. On her part, the Deputy Minister of the Somali Regional State Mines, Energy and Petroleum Bureau, Idman Mahamud Ali, emphasized the transformative impact of clean energy on local communities. “Clean energy is not only light; it is hope, job creation, business growth, and improved healthcare and education services. The 350 kW capacity means hundreds of families are moving out of darkness, while businesses gain new opportunities to grow,” she said. The project is expected to significantly improve the livelihoods of residents in Dig district by providing reliable electricity access for households, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities.
